Once Caesars Casino Resort Danville is operational, it is anticipated to draw in approximately 2 million visitors every year. Consequently, city authorities are relying on outdoor recreational facilities to experience unprecedented levels of activity.

According to the Virginia Tourism Corp., the primary reason for most travelers visiting Southern Virginia is to reunite with their loved ones. Currently, a mere 14% of visitors come for entertainment purposes.

Once Caesars establishes itself as one of Virginia’s latest casinos, those figures are undoubtedly expected to rise exponentially.

Caesars to provide Danville surge in tourism

Originally planned to open in December 2024, Danville’s recently established casino resort faced delays because of supply chain challenges and a shortage of labor. However, Caesars has managed to recover and is now on track for a grand debut in 2024.

Lisa K. Meriwhether, the town’s tourism manager, holds a positive outlook regarding the foot traffic that will be generated by Ceasars.

Additionally, it is important to note that 8% of the visitors currently appreciate our destination’s outdoor recreation facilities. However, with the upcoming opening of the Caesars resort, we anticipate a significant increase in the number of visitors who will have the opportunity to enjoy our renowned attractions. These include the acclaimed 11.5-mile Riverwalk Trail, the Dan Daniel Memorial Park, and the highly regarded 35-mile Anglers Ridge mountain-biking trails, which have been ranked among the top 10 bike trails in Virginia.

There is already a wide range of outdoor amenities available in the Danville area for guests to enjoy.

  • Ballou Park offers a variety of recreational amenities, including tennis courts, a nature trail, and a disc golf course.
  • Located at the Dan Daniel Memorial Park, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of recreational activities. These include a skate park, a thrilling 400-foot zipline, an exhilarating high-ropes course, spacious sports fields, scenic single-track trails, and convenient access to the Riverwalk Trail.
  • The names of the parks are Coates Park and Coates Bark Park.
  • Evans Park
  • Boat rentals are available at Abreu-Grogan Park.
  • Danville Art Trail
  • There are a total of 25 neighborhood parks that are equipped with play equipment.

Currently, Danville officials are actively involved in the development of Riverfront Park, situated on a four-acre plot at the intersection of Main Street and Memorial Drive. The forthcoming park will boast a small stage dedicated to live entertainment and a lush seating area for onlookers.

Casino tax contributions to benefit Danville

Caesars is projected to provide a yearly tax contribution of $38 million, which will support ongoing initiatives to improve Danville’s infrastructure. According to city manager Ken Larking, the funds received from the casino resort will serve various purposes.

The city council of Danville has prioritized investing in both neighborhood parks and community parks. It is expected that there will be a particular emphasis on improving and expanding public spaces, such as our current parks and the Riverwalk Trail, as well as the development of new recreational facilities.

In addition to providing ample employment opportunities for local residents, the construction of this casino will generate numerous job opportunities. In order to successfully complete this project, Caesars intends to employ a total of 900 construction workers and 1,300 casino staff.

Caesars’ efforts will soon benefit workers, travelers, and the community of Danville through these new initiatives, allowing everyone to reap the rewards.
