Rivers Casino Portsmouth hosting job fair

As Rivers Casino Portsmouth prepares for an early 2023 opening, it’s now hosting job fairs to fully staff and serve bettors and visitors alike.

And unlike other Virginia casinos, supply chain issues haven’t slowed the casino’s construction timeline.

Crews prepped the site and Rivers Casino Portsmouth construction began in December. Workers raised the final steel beam in late June. But, developers haven’t set an exact date for the grand opening yet.

The casino operators are currently focused on hiring. This weekend they will meet with potential employees for the hospitality side of the casino.

As of now, Rivers Casino plans call for 1,300 workers. That should certainly help boost the local economy.

Employee benefits

Rivers Casino Portsmouth offers the following benefits to all full-time team members:

  • Medical and dental coverage
  • 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and company matches
  • Paid time off
  • Tuition reimbursement

Part-time employees also receive benefits. The perks include flexible scheduling hours, paid time-off and voluntary benefits.

Rivers Portsmouth also offers free training in its Table Games Dealer School. No experience is required. The casino looks for passionate people who are eager to learn a new skill.

The classes take place Tuesday through Friday. The Rivers Casino staff offers several class options throughout the day. Attendees can also choose between advanced and traditional classes. Previous experience helps decide the best fit for the table dealers.

The entire course takes eight weeks to complete. Students will receive a table dealers certification when they graduate.

The first class of dealers began course work on Aug. 9. But, it’s not too late to jump on board. Rivers Portsmouth has open spots for its next group of future table dealers as well.

What will Rivers Casino Portsmouth offer visitors?

Rivers is investing $300 million into the casino. It will be located at the corner of Victory Boulevard and Freedom Avenue in the southeast Virginia city.

Rivers is expected to earn $16 million in annual tax revenue. Plans could always change, but for now the project includes:

  • BetRivers Sportsbook
  • Table games and slot machines
  • Full-service hotel
  • Live event center
  • Conference and meeting space
  • Restaurants and bars

The Rivers Casino project is ahead of the pack because crews on site began clearing land for construction a full year ago. Dirt work continued while operators applied for a license from the Virginia Lottery.  Three more VA cities also have casino plans.
