BetMGM at Nationals Park

With the launch of BetMGM at Nationals Park, the sports betting company has expanded its foothold in the DMV.

Officials on Thursday announced that the BetMGM mobile sports betting app is now available at the home ballpark of the Washington Nationals.

In fact, the BetMGM app, which also launched in Virginia earlier this year, is available within a two-block radius around Nats Park.

This is the latest move following the Nationals and BetMGM signing a multi-year, exclusive partnership earlier this year.

But it won’t be the only move.

Details on BetMGM At Nationals Park

As we’ve previously reported, Washington, DC has a rather restricted sports betting market. Only the DC Lottery-backed GambetDC has the authorization to accept bets District-wide (aside from on federal lands).

Like William Hill at Capital One Arena, though, BetMGM will now have a small sliver of the nation’s capital where it can accept online wagers.

However, BetMGM and the Nationals also plan to open a retail sportsbook connected to Nationals Parks later this year.

BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt stated:

“Launching in Washington, D.C. at Nationals Park sets the stage for our plans to expand BetMGM within the region, as we’ve already seen great success in Virginia. The Washington Nationals have been a fantastic partner, committed to innovating the in-stadium fan experience and we’re looking forward to opening our retail sportsbook at the stadium later this year.”

The BetMGM app is available on both iOS and Android.

BetMGM in Virginia

BetMGM was the third of seven VA online sportsbooks that now accept wagers. Along with FanDuel (53% of sports-betting handle) and DraftKings (24%), BetMGM (14%) emerged as one of the early leaders of VA sports betting.

With such a limited range in DC, the BetMGM app in DC is unlikely to lure any curious sports bettors from Virginia on its own.

However, now that officials have lifted capacity restrictions, Nationals Park should soon again be a popular destination. And if you’re in town, you now have the ability to place a BetMGM wager even if you’re outside of Virginia borders.

BetMGM officials clearly are bullish on the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia). Nats fans are, for now at least, the center of that attention.

Lerner Sports Group Chief Operating Officer Alan Gottlieb stated:

“As our official sports betting partner, BetMGM further enhances the greatest in-venue fan experience in Washington, D.C. through its state-of-the-art entertainment products and services. The BetMGM mobile app will enable our fans to engage with the game in new and exciting ways, while the BetMGM sportsbook connected to Nationals Park will provide Nationals fans and the DC community with a first-class gathering place to celebrate their passion for sports.”
